Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about DeskBeat
🤔 Am I going to break my expensive MacBook?
Absolutely not. DeskBeat features a 5-level sensitivity setting ranging from heavy hits to delicate fingertips. You don't need to smash your keyboard. Worried about tapping your Mac at all? Try tapping the desk right next to it! Depending on the surface material, our sensors can even pick up the rhythm through solid tables.
🎙️ Are you listening to my microphone?
No. The app does not require microphone access. All hit detection is 100% physical and mechanical. DeskBeat talks directly to your laptop's sensors to detect your taps.
🔋 Will this drain my battery?
Nope. To preserve your battery and prevent accidental triggers while typing normally, DeskBeat uses Smart Focus Management. It only monitors the accelerometer when the app popover is visible or when you explicitly set it to "Play in background".
🎵 Can I use my own sounds?
Yes! You can import your own .wav or .mp3 samples directly through the Settings UI. DeskBeat securely saves your custom sound library locally and generates color-coded pads for them.
🥁 Is it easy to play?
Here is the truth: your Mac is now a real musical instrument, and like any instrument, it takes a bit of practice to master. If you strike too hard, the vibrations might trigger multiple sounds at once. Tap too softly, and it won't register. Use the sensitivity slider to find your personal sweet spot, practice your touch, and you'll learn to play it cleanly in no time.
🪑 Does the surface I play on matter?
Yes! For the best experience, place your MacBook on a stable, solid desk. If the surface is unstable, thin, or "bouncy", the vibrations might not transfer correctly to the sensors, making the detection less precise. A sturdy table ensures every tap is captured with the best accuracy.
