Privacy Policy

Last Updated: April 2026

1. The Short Version

We respect your privacy. DeskBeat does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Everything happens locally on your machine. We built DeskBeat to be a fun, offline tool, not a data-harvesting machine.

2. No Microphone Access Required

It might feel like magic, but we aren't listening to you. DeskBeat does not request or require access to your Mac's microphone. All tap and hit detection is calculated using your MacBook's built-in physical accelerometer sensors (detecting movement and vibration), not audio.

3. Local File Processing

If you choose to import custom sound kits (e.g., .wav or .mp3 files) into DeskBeat, those files are securely saved entirely on your local hard drive. We do not upload your custom audio files to any cloud servers or third-party services.

4. Purchase and Licensing

Payments and license key generation are handled securely by our official merchant of record, Gumroad. When you purchase DeskBeat, Gumroad collects necessary billing information (such as your email address) to process the transaction. We only have access to the email address you provide during checkout, which we use exclusively to provide customer support or notify you of critical app updates. We never sell or share this information.

5. Why does macOS ask for my password?

When you first launch or activate DeskBeat, macOS may prompt you for your administrator password. This is a standard security measure and happens for two safe reasons:

  • License Storage: To securely save your Gumroad activation key in your Mac's encrypted Keychain, so you don't have to enter it every time you open the app.
  • Sensor Access: To grant the app permission to read the raw, low-level data from your MacBook's built-in accelerometer (this is how we detect your physical taps with low latency).

We never see, record, or have access to your Mac password.
